I love editing. It’s refreshing, yielding results equal to a reorganized closet or a weeded flowerbed. Such unbridled exercise uncovers hidden treasure in the form of clear concepts and honed phrases.

Eliminating words is as responsible as recycling; they become a transient lexicon residing in first, second, and third drafts.

I CREATE

My imagination holds vast resources and flows ideas artfully and enthusiastically. Illustrated, I’d be someone dancing in the street, daily. Dependable letters of the alphabet are always standing by, eager to become word images called manuscripts, content, and blogposts.

Proficient application of skill, from years of apprenticeship, is required to expertly craft each piece, but it’s worth it for me, because the absence of writing is tantamount to restricting my oxygen.

I CUSTOMIZE EMERGENT LEARNING PLANS

In emergent learning, skill is developed through the work itself. When I teach, patience accompanies creating a safe structure for each learner to rise then perform spectacular high-wire acts. No one should ever be told they cannot or should not write.

Be it project management, accountability, outlines, style development, or grammar, I celebrate when I hear exclamations of ‘I get it’. Milestones are measured when students become writing colleagues.
